The first major change in the design of the production version was the case design. In the original series I thought that the case should be kept extremely simple in order to focus on the ideas behind the watches, I'm not sure that this was a particularly successful conceit, so I spent a lot of time working to make an elegant form for the watches. At the same time as designing the case I began working on the design of the different faces. Two of these were quite straight translations of the designs from the first series, but others like The Decider emerged from working with the idea of printing the hands onto transparent discs (all of the hands on all the watches are produced using this technique, which is normally used to produce childrens watches). I also began looking for a factory that would both be able to deliver the quality that I wanted as well as allowing me to order a (relatively) small quantity of 500 watches from them. I found a company based in Hong Kong who were able to accommodate me on both of these points and I began working with them to develop the first set of samples.
