CWC Royal Navy chronograph (1980)

£ 1,500

This is a manual wind chronograph issued to a pilot in the Royal Navy in 1980, it was made by Cabot Watch Company (CWC). CWC were established in 1972 to supply the various branches of the British armed forces with watches and this watch was supplied to the Royal Navy and issued by them in 1980.

CWC were one of four companies to supply the Armed Forces with chronographs in the 1970s and 80s (the other three were Hamilton, Prescista and Newmark). All the companies supplied watches that conformed to a specification laid down by the military in DEF-STAN 66-4 (Part 2). The specification called for a robust all stainless steel case, with one or two push buttons, sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock with centre chronograph seconds.

The watch is powered by a Valjoux 7733 movement, Valjoux were a specialist producer of chronograph movements, they supplied a lot of different brands during the 70s and 80s and their movements are noted for their reliability and robust construction.

The original dial conforms to the MOD specification and is in very good condition with a nice aged tone. The movement has been fully serviced and is running superbly. The case is in very good order, with only minor scratches and signs of wear, it has been ultrasonically cleaned but not polished.

Fitted with a new fabric NATO strap, a super watch ready for daily wear.

Case diameter (excluding winding crown): 38mm
Case material: stainless steel
strap width: 20mm
time keeping: grade A
